Joan Miró. Women, Birds, Stars |
SSM is proudly hosting a comprehensive exhibition comprised of the works of Barcelona-born Catalan painter and sculptor Joan Miró. The exhibition, focusing on the mature period of world-renowned artist Miró, who was prominent in the second half of the 20th century, will meet art enthusiasts under the title “Joan Miró. Women, Birds, Stars”.
The exhibition, made possible with the sponsorship of Sabancı Holding and organized in collaboration with the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation, as well as the family collection in Mallorca, will be open to the public between the dates of September 23, 2014 - February 1, 2015.

Art Conservation Lectures at the Sakıp Sabancı Museum |
Join us for lectures outlining the latest research into the conservation on paintings and contemporary art. These lectures are open to all art conservation professionals and interested members of the public, and are presented by visiting international experts in the field. Dr. Ashok Roy, Director of Collections, National Gallery, London will present a lecture on the growing role of scientific examination of works of art in helping to establish the origin, history and authorship of questionable or disputed paintings, and those which have sometimes puzzled art-historians. Dr. Tom Learner, Head of Science at the Getty Conservation Institute, will present a lecture on the many challenges of conserving modern and contemporary art, which is often created with new and unorthodox mediums.

Spanish Cinema Days |
The museum is hosting a series of screenings of groundbreaking Spanish film classics in conjunction with the “Joan Miró. Women, Birds, Stars” exhibition. The screenings will begin with the works of one of the most influential directors of cinema history, Luis Buñuel. Future screenings include dissident director Carlos Saura’s films, as well as the films of critically-acclaimed director and screenwriter Pedro Almodóvar.
Films will be shown in their original language with Turkish subtitles. Admission to the screenings is free of charge and limited to the availability of seats.

Alexei Volodin |
Istanbul Recitals is opening with Alexei Volodin, the Russian virtuoso considered to be among the most talented Russian pianists of our time. Volodin regularly works with the world's top orchestras, among which are the New York Philharmonic, Gewandhaus-Orchester Leipzig, Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has recorded with such companies as Live Classics, ABC Classics and Challenge Records. Volodin’s last recording, titled ‘Sergei Rachmaninov Piano Works’ came out in February 2013. Joan Miró at Müzedechanga! |
Müzedechanga is continuing its food & art pairing nights, an ongoing event series that previously took place accompanying the Rembrandt, Monet and Anish Kapoor exhibitions, with special menus created this time for the ‘Joan Miró. Women, Birds, Stars’ exhibition. Museum visitors will have the chance to taste various dishes inspired by the colors and forms of Miró with a hint of Spanish gastronomy six days a week, at both lunch and dinner.
