Joan Miró. Women, Birds, Stars

SSM is proudly hosting a comprehensive exhibition comprised of the works of Barcelona-born Catalan painter and sculptor Joan Miró. The exhibition, focusing on the mature period of world-renowned artist Miró, who was prominent in the second half of the 20th century, will meet art enthusiasts under the title “Joan Miró. Women, Birds, Stars”.

The exhibition, made possible with the sponsorship of Sabancı Holding and organized in collaboration with the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation, as well as the family collection in Mallorca, will be open to the public between the dates of September 23, 2014 - February 1, 2015.

Spanish Cinema Days

SSM is continuing screenings of groundbreaking Spanish film classics in conjunction with the “Joan Miró. Women, Birds, Stars” exhibition. The films of critically-acclaimed director and screenwriter Pedro Almodóvar are meeting film enthusiasts this week. Films will be shown in their original language with Turkish subtitles. Admission to the screenings is free of charge and limited to the availability of seats.

Turkish Cinema’s 100 Years with 10 Films

Unforgettable examples of Turkish cinema are being screened at SSM as part of its Cinema Days events, starting from November 19. All films will be shown in Turkish. Admission to the screenings is free of charge and limited to the availability of seats.

Panel on Turkish Cinema

Film critic Atilla Dorsay, director-screenwriter Yavuz Turgul and actor Şener Şen will be in dialogue on The Turkish cinema, following the screening of “Muhsin Bey” on November 19, as part of Cinema Days at SSM: Turkish Cinema’s 100 Years in 10 Films.

Children in Miró’s Universe, with Birds and Stars

SSM Children’s Workshops invites all children to Miró’s universe, in conjunction with the “Joan Miró. Women, Birds, Stars” exhibition. In the workshops, children learn to think like Miró and meet his inspirations and get the chance to work in Miró’s techniques with the materials the artist used. Workshops are held on both weekdays and weekends with the attendance of children and teenagers from 5 to 18 years old.

Children’s Workshops are held in Turkish.

The classes are free of charge.

Mothers with Prams Day

The program aims to give mothers a special museum experience with the Turkcell Platinum Mothers with Prams day, including a tour of the exhibition with an instructor and such workshop activities as memory games and printing techniques.

The program, which is offering mothers and babies their first museum experiences together, invites fathers to come along as well, all free of charge.

 
   
 

SSM Adult Education Programs

Sakıp Sabancı Museum’s ongoing programs continue with extensive coverage of art, art history and mythology, with such seminars as “The Relationship of Music and Fine Arts – Module 1,2” by Prof. Dr. Uşun Tükel, “The Relationship of Mythology and Art” by Prof. Dr. Zühre İndirkaş, and “Modernity and Art in the non-Western World: In the examples of 5 Metropols” by Prof. Dr. Uğur Tanyeli, and “Surveys in Contemporary Art - 2” by Prof. Dr. Ali Akay, and “Painting and Modernity from the Ottoman Empire to the Turkish Republic” by Dr. Ahu Antmen.

Seminar programs are held in Turkish only.
